In the Emilian section alone, il Sentiero dei Ducati crosses:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.parchiemiliacentrale.it\/paangia.protetto.terre.matilde\/Eindex.ph\"><strong><u>Protected Landscape of the Reggiana Hills Terre di Matilde<\/u><\/strong><\/a>,<\/li>\n<li>the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.parchiemiliacentrale.it\/riserva.rupe.campotrera\/Eindex.php\"><strong><u>Rupe di Campotrera Natural Reserve,<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.parcapuane.it\/\">Regional Park of the Apuan Alps<\/a><\/li>\n<li>various naturalistic sites endorsed by of European Community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>including a large portion of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mabappennino.it\/\"><strong><u>Tuscan-Emilian Apennines Biosphere Reserve of MAB-UNESCO<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"714\" class=\"wp-image-538\" src=\"https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Canossa-Foto-M.-Franchi-rev-1-1024x714.jpeg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Canossa-Foto-M.-Franchi-rev-1-1024x714.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Canossa-Foto-M.-Franchi-rev-1-300x209.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Canossa-Foto-M.-Franchi-rev-1.jpeg 1789w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>On History\u2019s Trail<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><em>The Sentiero dei Ducati crosses a territory theater of events that have marked the history of Europe and Italy.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The \u201cSentiero dei Ducati\u201d owes its name to its contouring the ancient borders which, from the XVI century, separated the Estensi Duchy of Modena -Reggio from that of Parma -Piacenza as well as from the territories of Tuscany.\u00a0<\/strong>Meandering and intersecting, modified several times by history, these borders were also \u201cinternational\u201d at the time when they divided the French empire from the Kingdom of Italy. But it is certainly not only since the time of the Duchies that the trail has preserved remarkable traces. In fact, the trail traces follows\u00a0<strong>ancient routes\u00a0<\/strong>which, since old times have been joining the\u00a0<strong>Tyrrhenian Sea to the Po Valley and the Adriatic<\/strong>, through the valleys of the\u00a0<strong>Enza and Magra rivers<\/strong>. These routes were traveled by soldiers and knights, merchants and churchmen who have left everywhere, over the centuries, extraordinary monuments of their passage. Among those traces, stand out\u00a0<strong>menhir statues<\/strong>\u00a0which in\u00a0<strong>Lungiana<\/strong>\u00a0testify to a megalithism common to many pre-protohistoric populations of Europe. Or the\u00a0<strong>protohistoric site<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0<strong>Monte Lulseto<\/strong>, in Reggio Emilia, perhaps dedicated to the veneration of Fertility and Mother Earth, recently discovered by the Scientific\u00a0<strong><u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.caicsc.it\/\">Committee of the CAI<\/a>.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"wp-image-540\" src=\"https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG_20200510_111533-ressized-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG_20200510_111533-ressized-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG_20200510_111533-ressized-1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Moreover, the many remains of ancient\u00a0<strong>Etruscan and Roman settlements<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>castles of the \u201cDa Canossa\u201d family<\/strong>, among which towers the one which is a symbolic place of the Middle Ages where in the freezing winter of 1077 in the presence of the great Matilda, Emperor Henry IV kneeled in front of Pope Gregory VII, marking forever the fate of Europe. Besides, in Lunigiana, the many villages founded and castles erected by the noble\u00a0<strong>Malaspina family<\/strong>, descendant of the Obertenghi, later fragmented and contended by the branches of the family itself (the \u201cSpino Secco\u201d and the \u201cSpino Fiorito\u201d, the \u201cthe Dead Branch\u201d and the \u201cBlooming Branch\u201d). The Malaspina also often contended their territory with the bishop of Luni, the Genoese and the Florentines. They also intervened in the internal wars of the Florentines, Guelphs and Ghibellines, and hosted\u00a0<strong>Dante<\/strong>\u00a0several times during his exile in Lunigiana, so that the \u201cSupreme Poet\u201d in its VIII Canto of Purgatory speaks to Corrado Malaspina the Younger, expressing gratitude towards his family. And last, just before the shores of the Tyrrhenian sea, the traveler reaches the ancient fortress of Sarzanello, also known as the Fortress of Castruccio, with its moats, imposing walls and impressive architectural features. Just after, the delightful, lively fortified town of Sarzana meets the traveler with its tower house of the Bonaparte, a Sarzanese patricians from whom Napoleon Bonaparte descended. Not far, the magnificent\u00a0<strong>Luni<\/strong>, an\u00a0<strong>ancient and very important Roman port on the Tyrrhenian Sea<\/strong>, of which vestiges still remain preserved in the local museum and archaeological area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"757\" height=\"868\" class=\"wp-image-542\" src=\"https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG-20200628-WA0004-rev-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG-20200628-WA0004-rev-1.jpg 757w, https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG-20200628-WA0004-rev-1-262x300.jpg 262w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 757px) 100vw, 757px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Connections with other Trails<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><em>The Sentiero dei Ducati is a hiking axis that connects other important routes and paths, contributing not only to expanding the network of\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camminiemiliaromagna.it\/en\"><strong><u>Trails in Emilia Romagna<\/u><\/strong><\/a><strong><em>\u00a0but also acting as a link with long distance transregional and transnational paths.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ducati Trail intercepts the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.viefrancigene.org\/en\/\"><strong><u>Via Francigena<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Luni after having first crossed the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.viamatildica.it\/\">\u00a0<strong><u>Via Matildica del Volto Santo<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in the Emilian territory and then the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.assaporaparma.it\/it\/sulle-tracce-di-antiche-vie\"><strong><u>Via dei Linari<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at the Passo del Lagastrello. But not only: in the territory crossed by the Sentiero dei Ducati, the ancient paths that led to Rome intersect and overlap with the more modern hiking itineraries. Among them the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.terredilunigiana.com\/trekking\/trekkinglunigiana.php\"><strong><u>Lunigiana Trekking<\/u><\/strong><\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sentieroitalia.cai.it\/\"><strong><u>Sentiero Italia CAI<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.project.vento.polimi.it\/\"><strong><u>VENTO cycle path<\/u><\/strong><\/a>, just to mention the most famous ones. In addition, the widespread local network of CAI paths (only in the Reggio Emilia area of \u200b\u200b1200 km) creates a very rich infrastructure for slow tourism, for those who love to walk or cycle on ancient tracks surrounded by an awesome nature and history.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The places of taste (food and wine aspects)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><em>The Sentiero dei Ducati offers the traveler the opportunity to enjoy some of the most famous traditional cuisines in Italy, in a land known throughout the world also for its extraordinary food products.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In Emilia<\/strong>\u00a0one can taste not only the gastronomic \u201cstars\u201d such as\u00a0<strong>Parmigiano Reggiano, Traditional Balsamic Vinegar<\/strong>, but also\u00a0<strong>Capelletti in broth, green and potato Tortelli, mushrooms, Pasta Ragia, Tagliatelle, Erbazzone<\/strong>, without forgetting all the other famous Emilian\u00a0<strong>cold cuts<\/strong>\u00a0enjoyed with\u00a0<strong>fried \u201cgnocco\u201d and \u201ctigelle\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and accompanied by a glass of traditional\u00a0<strong>Lambrusco<\/strong>. And to finish the famous \u201c<strong>English Soup<\/strong>\u201d (which despite its name has absolute Emilian origin), the\u00a0<strong>Torta in Cantina<\/strong>\u00a0(the Cake in the Cellar) and the absolute Reggio\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Torta di Riso<\/strong>\u00a0(Rice Cake).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"852\" height=\"1024\" class=\"wp-image-544\" src=\"https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG_20200531_131554bis-scaled-2-852x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG_20200531_131554bis-scaled-2-852x1024.jpg 852w, https:\/\/sentierodeiducati.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG_20200531_131554bis-scaled-2-249x300.jpg 249w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 852px) 100vw, 852px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><strong>In Lunigiana<\/strong>, cuisine is instead the result of the fusion of different traditions from neighboring regions, in particular Liguria and Tuscany. Poor basic ingredients, such as the spontaneous herbs that grow in the area, are the basis of the delicious\u00a0<strong>\u201cTorta d\u2019Erbi\u201d<\/strong>, while flour, water and salt combine magically to make the\u00a0<strong>\u201cTestaroli\u201d<\/strong>, perhaps the most famous pasta dish of Lunigiana along with the\u00a0<strong>\u201cPanigacci\u201d<\/strong>, a kind of bread to be eaten with\u00a0<strong>fresh cheeses and cold cuts<\/strong>. Noteworthy is\u00a0<strong>Lamb of Zeri<\/strong>, a delicious roast dish with potatoes. As far as desserts are concerned, unavoidable not to mention\u00a0<strong>\u201cBuccellato\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0a raisin medieval bread and the indescribable and creamy\u00a0<strong>\u201cAmor Pontremolesi\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chestnuts<\/strong>, whose trees cover both sides of the Apennines, are then the undisputed protagonists of many dishes along the entire Sentiero dei
