Parish Church of Offiano – 500 m slm

Although the Pieve di San Pietro di Offiano was mentioned in a document of Pope Eugene III in 1148, it is probably much older as can be deduced from the structure of the nearby settlements that follow some of the previous prehistoric ones and from the presence of ancient transhumance routes on which a Roman road was grafted. The archaeological excavations have revealed the structure of Romanesque origin with three apses and a sandstone, whereas the walls were in white limestone. In the 15th century a baptismal font was placed there; now it is preserved in the Casola museum. In the 18th century it was transformed into baroque forms as we see it today. On the facade there is a marble fragment that seems to depict a pilgrim.
