Stage 11var: Luni Variant
8.2 41 59 1
Variant that along the Via Francigena allows you to reach the archaeological area of Luni
Once on the Via Francigena near Caniparola, you can continue, instead of for Sarzana, towards the locality of Luni Scavi (crossing an area of very little landscape value) to visit the archaeological museum and the adjacent excavations of the ancient Roman Luni, in particular its suggestive amphitheater and the remains of the port where the Francigena pilgrims embarked towards Santiago. From Luni Scavi in about 20 minutes walking you can then reach (by paved road) the Luni stop of the Genoa - Pisa railway line and after Sarzana or other locations in a few minutes (alternatively, bus lines, quite frequent in the summer season, to and from coastal seaside resorts).
Attention: first check the days and opening hours of the archaeological site and the Museum by consulting the website: http://www.luni.beniculturali.it
